The King of Pepper! Picked when fully ripened to a bright red colour, these attractive peppercorns offer a mild aroma prior to crushing.  On pounding the aromatic release is phenomenal – fruity, bright, sweet and earthy at the same time. Heat release is gradual but persistent. The heat grows and builds, fruit notes come through well, sweetness and heat in beautiful balance.

Because of the sweetness and relative softness of the red pepper, it can be used in multiple ways; Try it on fruit salads, strawberries, ice cream or chocolate. It is also particularly good with more gamey meats such as lamb or venison.

The tasting is blind so producers' names remain hidden. This is what the Judges had to say:

• The aroma of these peppercorns is complex - a bouquet of spice, citrus, and sweetness. On taste, there is a heat to the pepper that is quite warming with notes of camphor and mild sweetness.
• Attractive wrinkled in appearance with a red hue. They are quite firm on the bite, there is an initial fruity note before the heat of the pepper kicks in. The heat is intense and long, a bold and powerful pepper character. A great example of a great quality peppercorn.
• Fiery little critters! These are delicious and that heat is fruity, pungent, fragrant and very delicious. Great complexity and lip tingling loveliness. A well rounded heat that lingers brilliantly. Most enjoyable.
• This vibrant peppercorn starts off with a fruitiness which is pleasing and then the heat begins to grow and it keeps on going! A great product with loads of depth and vibrancy.
